KKC Wraps Up 2011 Season

The 2012 Central Valley Championships are behind us once again and what a weekend of racing we had.  The Central Valley Championship is the biggest club race of the season and the end cap to the KKC Championship Season.  There were two double winners including Noah Garza in Junior 1 and KPV1, and Alieja White in KPV2 and Junior 206.   Jason Hannegan showed up on Sunday morning with a bare frame ready to put his kart together and run his first Senior race.  Jason got up to speed just in time to take advantage of an early race incident that took race leader Kolby Araki out of the main.  Jason Got past Araki, David Vasquez and Bradley Espinoza to take the lead and the  win!  Other winners included Justin Mankin in Rookie Sportsman, John Gibson in Senior Clone, Bo Olsen in Kid Kart, Elijah Potter in Kid Kart Novice, and Jared Mullis in Senior 206.  All in all, it was a great season and Central Valley Championship.

Senior Clone Pro Race News!

The Kerman Kart Club held their first ever Senior Clone Pro Race this weekend at the Fresno Fairgrounds.  Put up some money and you just never know who will show up.  Jeff Nelson of Invader Karts and Glenn Araki from PKS Kart Supplies were on hand to see about taking some of the cash home.  Both would wind on the front row of the Main Event, a photo opportunity that hasn't presented itself since the late 70's.  Nelson got an early jump and piloted his purple and green Invader to an easy victory with Araki aboard is Topkart taking second.

Kerman Kart Club Race Three Recap

Round three of the Kerman Kart Club Midway Madness Series was held under beautiful skies this past weekend at the Fresno Fairgrounds.  The big news of the weekend was seeing Glenn Araki back in the driver's seat after more than 5 years.  Glenn competed in the Senior Animal Heavy class and after a pole position qualifying effort, settled for second place behind teen driver Connor McNeil.  This race was a crossover race with Bakersfield Kart Club and the Kerman Kart Club would like to thank those of you from Bakersfield for attending.  It was certainly exciting watching the 12 shifters negotiate the bump out of turn three while catching three to four inches of air.  The highlight is always watching the new drivers test their skills during the Arrive-and-Drive session on Saturday night.  Hopefully we'll see some of those drivers in their own karts at future races.

Kerman Hosts Region 7 IKF at Buffalo Bill's in Primm, Nevada

The weekend is over and thanks to many volunteers and the members of the Kerman Kart Club, the race went as smoothly as it could. Beautiful skies greeted us in Primm, Nevada for the week leading into the weekend which made setup much easier than those 110 degree days in Fresno.  The club spent most of the day Wednesday and Thursday setting up the track, pits and parking areas and also making those last minute trips to the Planning Department to finalize the permits.  400 plastic barriers, 500 hay bales and 2000 feet of fence later, the track was ready.

Friday was the official practice day and the drivers had many compliments on the 1/2 mile 12 turn course.  The track was tight and challenging as usual which provided many passing zones throughout the weekend. The races went off with very few incidents and complaints.  After a long week, none of us were looking forward to the Sunday evening teardown.  With light rain all day Sunday, it made the work of putting the track away miserable to say the least.  Of course the rain stopped as soon as we were done.

The Kerman Kart Club did an outstanding job taking care of all the details.  Many thanks need to go out to all of the people who made it all happen.  Go to to see photos of the weekend.

Kerman Loses a Longtime Member

One of the founding fathers of not only the Kerman Kart Club but karting the valley has left us this week.  Nob Araki of PKS Kart Supplies passed away Wednesday morning after a brief battle with cancer.  Nob was 75 years old and just had his 54th anniversary with Terrie on the Fourth of July.  Nob and Terrie were an icon in the karting community since the mid 50's.  Nob and Terrie owned Tarpey Mower and Toyland of Clovis in the 1970 and 80's where they sold and serviced gokarts.  Nob purchased Pro Kart Shop (PKS) of Bakersfield in 1982 and later moved the shop to Fresno.

Nob began racing right after coming home from the service in the mid 50's racing at River Kart Track, Vacaville and even down to the dirt streets of Tecate Mexico.  Nob won several championships during his career.  Nob got the three boys, Mike, Glenn and Bryan into karting in 1974 after a brief stint with motorcycles. It's been all about karting ever since.  In 1985 Nob contacted a friend in the micro sprints and was able to get Glenn into a car at Plaza Park.  One year later, both Glenn and Bryan were racing both the micros and karts.  Later Nob got the grand kids involved with Jason, Kolby and Kellen.  It was common place to see Nob sitting in turn one at Plaza Park every Friday night watching the kids.

Nob is survived by his wife Terrie, Linda and Ken Okajima and grandson Jason and granddaughter Lauren, Sharon and Gene Nagata and grandson Steven and granddaughter Leanne, Mike and Valerie Araki and granddaughter Megan and grandson Kellen, Glenn and Christina Araki and granddaughters Natalia and Olivian and great-granddaughter Ayana, and Bryan and Annette Araki and granddaughter Kaylene and grandson Kolby.

Nob will be missed but never forgotten.

A Star Spangled Weekend at the Central Valley Championship

The Fourth of July weekend has come and gone but the memories of the third and fourth round of the Kerman Kart Club Racing Series will last forever.  Some of us will remember the hot weather, the water fights, the great barbeque dinners, the huge fireworks show, Ron on his homeless bicycle, the kids having a blast during movie night, Bryan head-over heels on the front straight, all the help setting up and tearing down the track, the shaved ice, or maybe even the trip home, but we'll all remember the great racing we witnessed all weekend.

Those who came out for our Central Valley Championship Race weekend had to brave the heat. Saturday was club race #3 followed by the special trophy dashes . All drivers were given the opportunity to run Lemans style trophy dashes after the mains. For the kids this is the best event of the weekend. The Cadet trophy dash was our first Nor Cal/Central Cal/So Cal shoot-out. The Nor Cal team of Hunter Corbitt and Danny Rubino went home with bragging rights. The Senior Superbox Dash for Cash had Kolby Araki taking the win along with the cash.

Sunday was our Central Valley Championship Race with the winner of each class taking home the coveted Central Valley Championship checkered flag.  Entries may have been light but the quality of drivers competing were the best and made for great racing all weekend. Check out the results page for a complete list of winners.  Everyone enjoyed the extra family activities which included outdoor movie night on Friday, the Saturday night BBQ was great, and the spectacular fire works show on Saturday was unbelievable!

The Kerman Kart Club would like to thank everyone that made the trip to our Central Valley Championship Race, it takes a lot of people to build & tear down a temporary track, and to all of you that helped out THANK YOU. It was everyone that made for another great Kerman Kart Club race weekend!

Race Number Two a Big Success

Kerman Kart Club held race number two at the Fresno Fairgrounds with a new track layout and improved services.  Just over 70 entries negotiated a larger track than the first race at just over 5-7 seconds per lap longer.  A much needed concession stand was brought in that provided hot dogs, hamburgers, donuts, coffee, cold drinks and much more, plus some great popcorn.  Ron Perry, the voice of the Kerman Kart Club was heard from one end of the pit to Sanger with a new sound system.  Ron kept everyone informed and on their toes.

More improvements are scheduled for the next race on the Fourth of July weekend.  Added features will be movie night, free spectator area restrooms, participant discounts and more!  Come on out and enjoy an inexpensive weekend of great racing.

Race Number One is in the Books

After several years of anticipation, the first Kerman Kart Race in decades was held at the Bug Fresno Fairgrounds.  Many past club member came out to watch and some even found their way back into a kart.  The Club hosted a brief arrive and drive program an Saturday where fans and helpers were able to take the wheel of a racing kart for their first time.  Some of those drivers came back and raced on Sunday.

Overall the races went real well with only one racing incident with Kid Kart driver Colt Stanley who flipped on the back straight right in front of the grand stands.  The value of the safety gear proved itself once again as Colt got up with no injuries and was able to complete the racing day.

The Kerman Kart Club will host race two and three on Memorial Day Weekend, once again at the Fresno Fairgrounds.  Come out to see what's happening in the sport of kart racing.   It's not your grandpas gokart!
